Biography
Ryuji Tokuda is a Japanese photographer and artist known for his original art project, *marble*.
After graduating from Yokohama National University with a degree in Engineering, he studied photography at Tokyo Visual Arts and began his professional career as a photographer in 2015.
In 2021, he launched marble, an art project that explores the possibilities of photography beyond its conventional role as a recording medium.
In marble, Tokuda creates each work by layering, transforming, and reconstructing hundreds of photographs into a single image. The resulting works may resemble paintings, yet every element originates from photography.
By reconsidering photography not only as a means of documenting reality but also as a material for creating images, he explores new possibilities within the photographic medium.
His works have been exhibited at department stores, galleries, and art fairs throughout Japan, including Hiroshima Mitsukoshi, Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin, Hankyu Men's Osaka, Toyama Daiwa, Korinbo Daiwa, and Isetan Shinjuku.
Through a unique visual language, Tokuda challenges conventional perceptions of photography and continues to explore new possibilities for the medium.
